What I Do
I figure out where technology can help your business, then build the solution. Here's what that looks like in practice.
People tend to come to me for two reasons.
The first is an idea. Something they want to create, something that's been going around their mind, that they think would be a fantastic boost to their business. They just have no idea how to go about doing it. That's where I come in.
The second is a problem. Something that's slow, manual, or just not working properly. I love solving problems. Give me a messy process and I'll figure out the best way to fix it.
Either way, I'm not tied to one tool, one platform, or one way of doing things. I use whatever solves it best. The point is, I figure it out.
The kind of thing I build
Running multiple tech businesses has given me experience across pretty much every technical area. And if something new is needed, I pick it up fast. Basically, if it involves a computer, I can probably help. Most solutions end up being a mixture of the following:
Don't see your thing? Ask me anyway. The answer is usually yes.
How it usually starts
The businesses that are pulling ahead right now aren't the ones with the biggest budgets. They're the ones that found someone to help them figure out where to start.
I'll get in there like a ferret in a pipe, poking around your processes, talking to the people who actually do the work, and finding all the places where time and money are being wasted. Most of the time, the person doing the job knows exactly what could be better. They just haven't had anyone to tell.
A quick honest bit
I'm not going to build something that doesn't need building. Sometimes the answer is "actually, what you've got is fine" or "you just need a better spreadsheet." If that's the case, I'll tell you. I'd rather you spent your money where it makes a real difference.
What does it cost?
It depends on what you need, but here are some rough guides so you know whether we're in the right ballpark.
- Custom tools (quote calculators, booking systems, dashboards, portals): typically between £2,000 and £10,000
- Business automation (process redesign, system integrations, workflow builds): most projects start from around £5,000
- Websites: from around £800 for a brochure site, built to speak to your customers, not just look pretty. More for e-commerce or complex features
- Fractional CTO: £1,200 per day. I come into your business for an agreed number of days per week and act as your technical lead
- AI talks: £500 plus travel. Consultancy and policy work at £200 per hour
- Ongoing support: available as a retainer or a negotiated hourly rate. No lock-in
Every project starts with a conversation, not a quote. I'll always give you a clear price before any work begins.
I stick around
I don't disappear after launch. A lot of freelancers and agencies hand over the work and move on. I keep an eye on things, fix what needs fixing, and improve what can be improved. It's an ongoing relationship, not a one-off job.
Ongoing support is available as a retainer or a negotiated hourly rate, with no lock-in. You use me when you need me.
And if you ever need someone else to work on it in the future, that's fine too. Everything I build is well commented, well documented, and uses popular programming frameworks and industry standards. If another developer needed to pick it up, they could. You're never locked in to me.
Want to know more about something specific?
I've written more detail about some of the areas I work in most often:
- Business automation: finding and fixing the processes that eat up your team's time
- Custom tools: quote calculators, booking systems, client portals
- Websites: properly built sites that rank on Google and bring in enquiries
- AI talks & training: practical sessions for your team, from someone who uses AI every day
